Design of Connections for Wood Members using the NDS and TR12 (1.5 PDH)


This course will feature techniques for designing connections for wood members utilizing AWC's 2015 National Design Specification® (NDS®) for Wood Construction and Technical Report 12 - General Dowel Equations for Calculating Lateral Connection Values (TR12). Topics will include connection design philosophy and behavior, an overview of common fastener types, changes in the 2015 NDS related to cross-laminated timber, and design examples per TR12.



Lori Koch, P.E., serves as a Manager for Educational Outreach for the American Wood Council. Lori has presented on various topics ranging from use of general engineering properties of wood, Engineered Wood Products (EWPs), Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT), and green building codes. She also works to find out how the AWC can help architects and engineers design safe, efficient wood structures. Lori has authored technical publications on topics pertaining to wood engineering and wood structural design.
